Wyatt’s Walk to Remember

Today we would like to cast a spotlight on one of our unstoppable community fundraisers, Wyatt’s Walk. On Sunday 18 September 2022, the 5km walk returned to Kissing Point Park, Putney and raised over $11,200 for Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation – a great achievement.

The history of this very special event traces back to 2014 when one young girl, Avalon and her two best friends decided to host a fundraiser to help support children with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), like her brother Wyatt.

Diagnosed at just two-weeks-old with the most common life-threatening genetic disease affecting Australian children, Wyatt’s big sister jumped into action in March 2014 and organised the inaugural Wyatt’s Walk in just five days!

The support from their local community and school friends was overwhelming, together raising just over $600 with a small registration fee, a lemonade stand and some home baked cookies.

Now, over eight years later, the fundraiser continues to grow year-on-year and has raised over $67,000 towards a cystic fibrosis research scholarship fund at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead..

Avalon and Wyatt’s proud mum, Karina says; ““As a family, we are so extremely grateful to everyone who has come along to Wyatt’s Walk over the years, learned more about Cystic Fibrosis and made us feel like we are not alone in this fight for a cure.  Everyday our little boy battles to stay as healthy as he can and we just want to help him to lead a long and happy life.”
